Enjoy your Andalusia crush.

Málaga, Spain

From its exotic name you can already get a feeling about this sun-kissed land. Whisper it slowly in the wind and the ships will speed up right away. Give it a try: Andalusiaaaa (soft and slowly!). See? What did I tell you!? Don’t worry, she's not as shy as she leads on. Sure, at first she offers you a cool breeze and gently caresses you with those long palm tree leaves near the ocean, but later on she'll just start burning like a roaster. When you get right on the edge and you can’t stand the heat any more, she'll know what to do, sending the sun right around the corner. Because I think that’s where the sun goes to sleep; it couldn’t go anywhere else, as that's the end of the land, the end of a world.

Just when you’ll start getting along, you'll be too dizzy to decide whether you want to discover a new park in Málaga, with odd roots vividly moving, catching you, eating you alive, or to let yourself go, wondering on the narrow, cobbled streets leading you to an orange square, that is not orange, but it has oranges. I mean not really oranges, but orange trees that don’t have oranges, but smell like oranges, which is quite nice - oh I would so eat an orange now! But this would be too easy, so you think “ok, let’s hit north, it should be cooler”. No! In Andalusia, north means hotter, and hotter means breathing fire. They must have some hidden dragons somewhere heating up the place, low cost and eco-friendly, right? Just like the very festive Seville. Or maybe it was all set up just for my arrival? Who knows!?

Anyway, here I felt a stronger Roman vibe then in Rome with those tall red curtains and green garlands wrapped around the giant pillars in the square, the white cloth above your path that turned the city into a huge lounge area. The cool breeze from the terraces was so welcoming, that I almost wanted to do a royal hand wave. Like colorful sand, everything was aged by the sun, keeping the bright vibe of the predominant African influences alive. Maybe it’s a preview before you sail away to the next continent, a hint about what’s next. Because this gate to Africa has more to offer than you can expect and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear stories about people that just wanted to pass by, but never left.

It’s pretty hard to keep a relationship with Andalusia, she’ll choke you and you’ll love it. And to make things even more complicated, there is also mistress. Her name is Algarve. You just can’t choose, you got to love them both! But I will tell you more about this one next time. In the meantime, take some fire breathing lessons and enjoy your Andalusia crush.
